One of the goals of the Global Channel Newsletter is to promote the sense of community among the Harris BCD dealers. We would like this newsletter to be a forum where announcements about newcomers and milestones reached by the more seasoned veterans can be communicated.
After more than 15 years of outstanding contribution and service to Harris, Mr. Cho Han-Chan, the owner of the Hanwon Trading Company in Seoul, Korea, has announced his retirement and decision to take his company out of the Broadcasting market in Korea at the end of September 2005. Mr. Cho founded Hanwon Trading in the early 1980s having originally started in the TV transmission business as the representative of TVT in Korea. Harris acquired TVT in the late 1980s resulting in Hanwon becoming the Harris distributor in Korea. During the past 15 years, Mr. Cho and his team have achieved great success in the Korean market selling over 200 transmitters (53 DTV, 44 analog TV, 31 AM and 85 FM) and many OB vans to the country's major TV and Radio broadcasters including KBS, MBC, TBS, BBS, PBC and EBS. As a result of Hanwon Trading's hard work and superb relationship with the broadcasting community, Harris has attained over 50% market share in Korea's high power transmitter market.
With support from Mr. Cho, the decision has been made to transfer Hanwon's distributorship to Vision Telecom who has been representing the Harris DAB product line in Korea since 2000. Andy Chan, Harris Sales Manager responsible for the Korean market said"We made the decision to appoint Vision Telecom to represent Harris in Korea for the product line previously represented by Hanwon as we believe that Vision Telecom is the best choice for the smooth transition and continuity of business. Vision Telecom has been working with Harris for a long time and understand the way we conduct our business. Furthermore, they are taking on-board two of Hanwon's staff to ensure the continuity and support of existing and upcoming projects."
Andy continued, "When Harris assigns existing products to a new dealer, one of the conditions that they are asked to accept is to take up all the after service support from the previous dealer, inclusive of projects still within warranty and outside warranty. In the case of Hanwon, I am very pleased to say that Mr. Cho also helped us with the transfer of the technical and commercial information to Vision Telecom and notification to the customer base in general, to ensure a smooth and seamless transition of the dealership in Korea."
Jishun Mei, Harris APAC Sales Director said,"As Mr. Cho reaches this important personal and career milestone, on behalf of Harris, I would like to thank him for the success and contribution in developing the broadcasting business for Harris in Korea. It was a great success in life and his achievements are truly ones to be proud of by his family and circle of friends. It was truly a great experience and pleasure working with Mr. Cho and we wish him a happy retirement and most importantly that he remains forever in good health."
