Drawing on decades of experience in implementing complex T1/E1 networks with the Intraplex® product line, Harris has taken a new approach to IP audio transport: the NetXpress™ managed platform.
NetXpress™ is an integrated combination of hardware and software that allows broadcasters to handle multiple audio programs, each with the appropriate type of audio compression (or none at all), integrate with existing T1/E1 services, carry legacy data circuits and even connect to PABX telephone systems, all controlled through a single, secure, powerful management interface.
It's a platform that provides resiliency and redundancy, that allows the user to set up as many as a hundred simultaneous IP streams, and to optimize each stream for its intended purpose using an extensive suite of hardware/software tools for redundancy, error mitigation, quality of service, and network performance monitoring to create the most reliable audio transport over IP system available for radio broadcasters today.
Furthermore, NetXpress™ serves as a gateway to reliable IP transport through a platform that allows radio broadcasters to gradually transition from T1/E1 or work within a hybrid IP/TDM network. NetXpress™ provides both a high-speed bus to enable new high-performance features, and a multi-channel T1/E1 bus that allows users to repurpose their existing inventory of Intraplex T1/E1 family channel modules within the IP environment. Existing Intraplex customers can protect their investment and take advantage of the new system's dual-bus structure. Broadcasters who implement this cost-effective approach can move incrementally to IP, thus avoiding the expense of building an entirely new infrastructure overnight.
"The transition to an IP environment makes sense for radio broadcasters who are looking to move beyond the expense and limitations of transport over fixed bandwidth circuits, especially as U.S. stations move forward with HD Radio™ implementations," said Bob Band, international channel sales manager for Harris BCD's Networking Solutions business unit. "NetXpress™ provides a reliable method for transporting audio, voice, and data over a robust, lower-cost IP connection in a point-to-multipoint design, and will have an immediate impact on national network operators looking to move intelligently into IP audio transport."
NetXpress™ is slated for commercial availability in early 2006.
