CINCINNATI, April 9, 2008 — Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), an international communications and information technology company, announces the availability of its ISDB-T platform for the Brazilian digital television market, now shipping in various configurations and power levels to early adopters of the ISDB-Tb standard. The 2008 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention marks the first public display of the platform, which allows ISDB-Tb broadcasters to deliver digital TV, HDTV and mobile TV channels to consumer TV sets and mobile/handheld devices. Brazil recently adopted the ISDB-Tb standard countrywide for over-the-air digital TV transmission, with the initial launch scheduled for December 2007. The new Harris® ISDB-Tb transmitter offers a complete, end-to-end solution that includes an ISDB-Tb digital exciter based on the Harris Apex ATSC exciter, along with Harris NetVX H.264 video networking equipment, which features an integrated multiplexing solution for the delivery of multimedia services, including mobile TV programming, over the same transmission channel. "The long-standing dedication Harris has had to the global transmission market is based on adapting to new and developing standards for digital television, including Brazil's recent adoption of the ISDB-Tb transmission standard for terrestrial and mobile TV delivery," said Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications. "Brazil has been a good market for Harris, with a very large installed base of analog TV transmitters throughout the country, and we have a growing local presence to accommodate our customers as they transition from analog to digital television. The integration of NetVX encoding technology in the ISDB-Tb transmission chain provides our customers with a complete digital TV solution that enables them to have a single transmission platform for digital multimedia services." The Harris ISDB-Tb transmitter enables reduced operational costs for the broadcaster through lower power consumption, and its single-platform consolidated design reduces the physical space requirements at the transmission facility. The transport of audio, video and data signals to various sites can be accomplished via satellite, microwave and IP distribution, with the ability to add localized channel information to the stream prior to signal modulation. Harris ISDB-Tb transmitters and NetVX video networking platforms are among the wide range of Harris solutions that optimize the transmission and media transport workflows of today's broadcast operations. Harris Broadcast Communications provides products, systems, and services that deliver interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire broadcast delivery chain. The Harris ONE approach brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition services.
