LAS VEGAS, April 13, 2008 (NAB2008, Booth N2502) — Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has expanded its range of Harris® Intraplex® networking and infrastructure products for radio broadcasters with the introduction of the Harris Stratex Networks LE3000 license-exempt radios for studio-to-transmitter link (STL) connectivity. The LE3000 radios are featured at the 2008 National Association of Broadcasters convention. The Harris Stratex Networks LE3000 license-exempt radios offer wireless STL support for radio broadcasters who are unable to secure a dedicated T1 or a 950 MHz RF connection between the studio and transmitter site. The easy-to-install, frequency-agile radios offer bidirectional T1/E1 and Ethernet ports to secure connectivity to an Intraplex chassis at both ends. The bidirectional support is ideal for HD Radio broadcasters who require reliable, two-way communication to support Ethernet-TCP traffic, along with STL and TSL (transmitter-to-studio link) audio, control data and telephone connectivity between the studio and the transmitter site. The wireless connectivity of the LE3000 radios also allows reduced costs for radio broadcasters, eliminating the monthly expenses incurred through leasing T1 lines. The removal of a monthly STL connectivity fee is a benefit for small-to-medium market broadcasters who wish to launch HD Radio broadcasts at a more cost-effective price. The LE3000 is particularly advantageous for broadcasters that can successfully use unlicensed STL technology in less-crowded broadcast bands. "The Harris Stratex LE3000 radios are ideal for any radio broadcaster in urban, suburban or rural areas who is unable to achieve a cost-effective connection between the studio and transmitter site," said Bob Band, business development manager for Intraplex products, Harris Broadcast Communications. "Broadcasters in markets with less-crowded bands are likely to benefit the most, with fewer interference concerns and the elimination of ongoing T1 costs. The LE3000 bidirectional support makes it a far more reliable choice for HD Radio than the one-way support offered through 950 MHz connectivity." The Harris Stratex Networks LE3000 license-exempt radios are available in all-indoor units or split systems with indoor and outdoor units, in desktop or rackmount versions. Outdoor units are available in 2.4 or 5.8 GHz versions. Harris Stratex Networks LE3000 license-exempt radios and Harris Intraplex® platforms are among the wide range of Harris solutions that optimize the radio transmission workflows of today's broadcast operations. Harris Broadcast Communications provides products, systems, and services that deliver interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire broadcast delivery chain. The Harris ONE approach brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition services.
