LAS VEGAS, April 13, 2008 (NAB2008, Booth N2502) — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has installed a range of its high-definition (HD) broadcast solutions at HD suisse, the first HD television channel in Switzerland, operated by Swiss public broadcaster SRG SSR idée suisse. The sale includes a range of equipment from across the Harris HD broadcast product portfolio, including the NEXIO XS HD/SD server platform, the Platinum MX routing switcher, the IconMaster HD/SD master control and branding solution and multiple X75 all-in-one processors. The contract was managed by Videolink AG, a dealer in Switzerland. "Selecting Harris to provide the core components for the build-out of our new HD channel was primarily based on past experience, as we have been using the company's NEXIO servers at our standard-definition playout centre in Zürich," said David Roth, head of engineering of tv productioncenter zürich ag (tpc) and project manager for HD suisse. "The NEXIO XS server system has proven to be extremely reliable and flexible. Its ability to provide back-to-back playout of multiple formats on every channel with an extensive range of I/O types, integrated applications support and encode options provides us with the workflow solution that we need for our new HD channel. "Furthermore, Videolink AG was pivotal in the negotiations and supported us throughout the installation and commissioning period. They will continue to provide ongoing support for our HD channel." Launched in December 2007 over Eutelsat's Hotbird 8 Satellite, HD suisse is using a 12-channel NEXIO XS video server platform comprising four NX3600HDX servers directly connected to six NEXIO shared storage chassis - providing a total capacity of 28.8 TB. The server is used in 720p/50-mode at a bit rate of 150 Mb/s (MPEG-2). Content is ingested into the server, where it can be previewed, played out or used as a source for trailer productions. Programs are played out in four languages to cover the regional variations. The content is stored in 720p/50 with four Dolby® E tracks each, and the two ingest stations are equipped with an X75 all-in-one processor with four external Dolby® E encoders. The X75 handles all the video and audio processing including cross conversion, delay compensation, audio track manipulation and Dolby® E guard-band protection. The Platinum MX routing switcher is used as a central routing system and also interfaces directly to the IconMaster master control and branding system. HD suisse produces in-house programming and programs in partnership with third parties that cover live-events, feature films and entertainment. SRG SSR idée suisse also produces live sports programs, and the company holds the exclusive television rights to UEFA EURO 2008, which is taking place in Switzerland and Austria in June 2008. Harris Broadcast Communications provides products, systems and services that deliver interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire broadcast delivery chain. The Harris ONE approach brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition services.
