LAS VEGAS, April 13, 2008 (NAB2008, Booth N2502) — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, introduces its comprehensive channel playout workflow solutions at the 2008 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention being held April 14-17, 2008, in Las Vegas. Solutions include 1080p support for the next-generation NEXIO AMP advanced media platform. "Today's broadcast operation is looking to add channels without adding payroll or more equipment, protect its brand no matter how the content is delivered, and differentiate its on-air look from the competitors. To meet our customers' varied requirements, Harris provides a full range of scalable, automated channel playout solutions — from specialty or secondary channels to fully automated, multichannel playout systems with integrated master control and graphics." — Tim Thorsteinson, President, Harris Broadcast Communications Advanced Server Functionality and Media Applications Harris is also announcing support of 1080p I/O for NEXIO AMP — making it the industry's first 3 Gb/s-ready broadcast server. This functionality enhances the broad range of HD and SD video formats already supported by the NEXIO AMP media platform, and enables broadcasters to more easily and affordably migrate to this emerging HD format. The addition of 1080p capability in the NEXIO AMP server reinforces Harris leadership as a provider of the broadcast industry's most advanced transmission server platform and expands the company's comprehensive family of 3 Gb/s-ready systems. Visitors to the Harris booth will see many additional NEXIO AMP platform enhancements, including support for Harris Intrinsic Mirroring. This patent-pending system, which is now shipping, is the latest advance in Harris storage protection for SAN-based NEXIO systems. Intrinsic Mirroring leverages the powerful, Emmy®-winning RAIDsoft storage protection system to automatically ingest content to two SANs simultaneously, resulting in no loss of content, seamless playout of on-air channels, and 100 percent bandwidth capacity even in the unlikely event of a SAN failure. Among other NEXIO AMP advancements at NAB2008 are integrated codec support for the Panasonic® AVC-Intra, DVCPRO HD and Sony® XDCAM® HD 35/50 formats; file-based workflow support for MXF, Panasonic P2®, AVC-Intra and Sony XDCAM® HD 35/50 files; support for AFD (Active Format Description), which optimizes video aspect ratio conversion for broadcasters migrating to HD; and expanded timecode capability. Multi-Image Display for Master Control Since acquiring Zandar Technologies in November 2007, Harris is able to offer a broad, extremely capable line of multiviewer solutions. Featuring unparalleled image quality, the new and expanded Harris family of multiviewers is flexible, scalable, diverse and well-suited for a variety of applications ranging from very small to very large installations. CENTRIO is a large-scale enterprise solution, accepting up to 512 inputs, and is ideal for a centralized master control environment. The Zandar Predator II is a scalable, distributed multiviewer solution that is ideal for master control rooms that are expected to grow. Designed for space-constrained environments, the Zandar QS100HD Quad card is a "multiviewer in a card" that offers all the features of a multiviewer in a single-slot card and works with the Sony LUMA/LMD monitors. Advanced control options for Zandar multiviewers include the Z-Configurator user interface. Integrated Broadcast Graphics System The G7 system is powered by the G-Scribe creation and playout software, featuring new video capture and 3D charting capabilities. With the enhanced G-3D design module, the G7 system produces dramatic, true 3D broadcast designs in both HD and SD. Key benefits of the G-3D design module include: 3D scene import from Autodesk® 3ds Max and Maya as well as COLLADA file formats; creation of 3D text, graphics and animations that integrate with imported files; access of graphics templates by G-Scribe, RTX, ODBC and Automation Interface; and real-time updates of 3D charts and tagged content. The Channel ONE advanced HD/SD graphics playout server also will be showcased at NAB2008 in a demonstration running on the new Altitude Express hardware platform. A single solution for creating, scheduling and airing complete television channels in HD or SD, the Channel ONE system's new platform capabilities include DVE of HD SDI input, simultaneous DVE of dual HD inputs, LTV file playback support through hardware, and video capture. The new ASI version of Channel ONE will also be demonstrated, representing the richest graphics tool available for the compressed video market. With one channel of ASI input and one ASI output, Channel ONE ASI allows operators to build almost any graphic presentation using real-time data to overlay on a single program transport stream. Harris Broadcast Communications offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire broadcast delivery chain. The Harris ONE approach brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition services.
