LAS VEGAS, April 13, 2008 (NAB2008, Booth N2502) — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international leader in broadcast communications and information technology, and Building B, a new entertainment services company that has developed the first comprehensive television service to directly combine traditional and emerging broadband content in a breakthrough on-demand video entertainment platform, today announced that Building B will co-locate its network operations center (NOC) within Harris Corporation's world-class NOC facility in Melbourne, Fla. Leveraging Harris' expertise in digital asset management and content aggregation and its nationwide distribution network, Building B's service has the potential to generate new revenue streams and add value to broadcasters' interaction with consumers when it rolls out its service later this year. Building B's approach to home video entertainment enables local broadcasters to participate in the subscription television business and strengthen their local franchise. By leveraging broadband technology, Building B provides precise knowledge about who is watching television, making it possible to deliver highly relevant programming and advertising, which will steadily increase advertising CPMs (cost per thousand homes). The company's platform also introduces new ways for broadcasters to interact and strengthen loyalty among viewers by delivering branded and online contact direct to the television. With the impending digital broadcast transition in February 2009, the broadcast industry has spent billions of dollars upgrading its technology and systems in anticipation of the switch. By working together, Building B and Harris will enable broadcasters to immediately leverage their digital investment and strengthen their core business. "Harris brings in-depth knowledge, expertise and leadership in the broadcast industry to Building B," said Buno Pati, Building B co-founder and chief executive officer. "Working with Harris allows us to scale our operations quickly and achieve high service reliability and a broad footprint at our service launch later this year." "Building B is creating opportunities for broadcasters to leverage the significant investment made to distribute broadcast signals digitally without any extra effort, and this is made possible partly by Building B's adoption of the Harris ONE approach," said Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications. "With our media management systems, multichannel playout, H.264 video encoding, video servers, multiviewers, routers, test and measurement systems and signal processing equipment, the Building B network operations center will leverage the latest and best of Harris' broadcast solutions. As a capstone to the Building B NOC, our H-Class Enterprise Management will create an environment in which Building B can effectively accomplish its workflows and enable reliable delivery of its product to the consumer."
