CINCINNATI, May 1, 2008 — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, was honored with two prestigious industry awards at the 2008 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB2008) convention held April 14-17 in Las Vegas. Harris won Broadcast Engineering magazine's Pick Hit award for the X85 enhanced all-in-one processor and for the NEXIO AMP advanced media platform, the industry's first 3 Gb/s-ready broadcast server. "At NAB2008, we introduced a wide range of innovative new solutions that enable broadcasters to streamline their workflows, reduce the cost of operations and profit from new revenue models," said Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications. "Winning these prestigious industry awards underscores the value of the unique Harris ONE approach, which brings together highly interoperable and cost-effective products that create efficiencies that today's broadcasters need to stay competitive." With a 24-year history, the Broadcast Engineering Pick Hit awards are the industry's longest-running new product technology awards. An anonymous panel of Broadcast Engineering readers who are working professionals in the broadcast, post and network and satellite industries, selected the winners. Unveiled at NAB2008, the X85 enhanced all-in-one processor is an extension of the market leadership of the X75 all-in-one processor. The X85 processor adds all-new features into its space-saving 1RU frame: a linear frame rate conversion option converts 59.94 Hz and 50 Hz-based signals; dual-channel processing provides maximum efficiency; and a 3 Gb/s upgrade capability allows for an easy, economical move anytime a broadcaster is ready to make the transition to 1080p. The NEXIO AMP advanced media platform pairs a high-performance, high-definition/standard-definition (HD/SD) server architecture with best-in-class content protection. Recent NEXIO AMP platform enhancements include support for the patent-pending Harris® Intrinsic Mirroring technology, the latest advance in Harris storage protection for SAN-based NEXIO systems. NEXIO AMP servers also possess the ability to host integrated, software-enabled media applications, allowing customers to reduce hardware expenditures and improve overall workflow efficiency. At NAB2008, Harris announced 1080p support for the NEXIO AMP product line, making it the industry's first 3 Gb/s-ready broadcast server Harris Broadcast Communications offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire broadcast delivery chain. The Harris ONE approach brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition services.
