Harris Corporation Unveils Video Networking Enhancements to Further Streamline Broadcasters' Multiplatform Delivery Workflows

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, September 11, 2008 (IBC2008, Stand 7.G20) — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, announces the latest advancements in its video networking/encoding and media transport product portfolio at the 2008 International Broadcasting Convention (IBC).

Harris provides broadcasters with the tools to streamline any multiplatform delivery workflow — whether the requirement is to move content within a facility or across the country. The company leverages the value and versatility of its industry-leading 6800+™ core processing platform to offer a range of cost-effective, modular solutions that address IP traffic, satellite demodulation and advanced video decoding applications.

At IBC2008, Harris will highlight the IPS6800+, a two-channel, bidirectional IP video gateway module that provides a cost-effective alternative to transporting uncompressed SDI video; and the MFD6800+ MPEG-2/H.264 multiformat decoder module, which provides the flexibility of ASI or IP-based MPEG-2 or H.264 SD or HD decoding.

"These latest additions to our core networking module portfolio provide high-quality performance and increased functionality within a compact 2RU frame," said Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications. "These modules provide a highly scalable and controlled alternative to advanced distribution architectures and are well-suited for a variety of customer requirements — extending the video plant across an IP network, distributing compressed media, upgrading to DVB-S2, multiformat decoding or simply converting from one format to another."

The Harris® NetVX™ video networking platform, which includes MPEG-4/H.264 and MPEG-2 encoding modules, offers complete solutions inside and outside the plant to encode, multiplex and transport broadcast-quality SD and HD video for multiplatform delivery services.

At IBC2008, Harris also will showcase the NetVX ENC-A21 MPEG-4/H.264 video encoder, which now features IP-controlled statistical multiplexing to more efficiently distribute SD and HD video within a single NetVX chassis or across multiple frames across the broadcast facility. This complete solution allows direct-to-home broadcasters and service providers to more efficiently use existing bandwidth, delivering more channels to the consumer without the need to invest in additional transmission bandwidth.

Harris also has expanded the NetVX platform offering with the introduction of the SYS-350 system enclosure. The SYS-350 can support any combination of two encoders HD or SD, MPEG2 or H.264 in a 1RU frame. The SYS-350 contains a third slot for network access, either ATM or IP, or can be used to provide ASI transport.

Harris Broadcast Communications offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire media delivery chain. The Harris ONE™ solution brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition services.
