Harris Corporation Now Shipping Complete Range of DMB 670 Multimedia Transmitters to Europe

New Harris® PowerSmart™ Architecture Creates the Lowest Possible Cost of Ownership per Transmitter in the Broadcast Industry

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, September 11, 2008 (IBC2008, Stand 7.G20) — Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), an international communications and information technology company, announces that it is now shipping its complete range of DMB 670 transmitters to Europe for simultaneous Mobile TV and digital radio broadcasting. Available in power levels from 125 watts to 10 kW, the DMB 670 range supports the Terrestrial-Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (T-DMB) and Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) standards in a single, compact platform. Harris will showcase the DMB 670 in various power levels at the 2008 International Broadcasting Convention (IBC).

Harris® DMB 670 transmitters are the most compact T-DMB/DAB transmitters in the broadcast industry, delivering live, multimedia broadcast services to a variety of mobile and handheld consumer devices. All DMB 670 transmitters utilize the new Harris PowerSmart™ architecture to deliver the highest power-density of any broadcast transmitter on the market. The PowerSmart architecture features a new 50-volt LDMOS device that minimizes parts within the transmitter and creates an extremely compact and energy-efficient transmitter, while providing a robust transmission output for reliable delivery of multimedia services.

"The wide variety of power levels addresses every transmission strategy -- from very high-power, wide area broadcasting, to gap filler applications in mountainous terrains, or temporary, localized transmissions," said Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications. "The robust power output of the Harris design allows broadcasters in regions supporting the T-DMB and DAB standards to better serve consumers that digest live, multimedia broadcast services on the move."

DMB 670 transmitters feature an air-cooled design and share an architecture and components from the Harris® ZX® range of common amplification transmitters, and are completely RoHS compliant. The DMB 670 transmitter can interface with headend equipment to build a complete solution for the encoding, multiplexing and transmission of multiple digital audio and video channels in a single transport stream.

Harris DMB 670 multimedia broadcast transmitters are among the wide range of Harris solutions that optimize the transmission workflows of today's T-DMB and DAB broadcasting operations.

Harris Broadcast Communications offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire media delivery chain. The Harris ONE™ solution brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition services.
