The Harris Z-HD+ family of HD Radio™ transmitters is designed for tri-mode operation (common amplification of both the FM and IBOC DAB signals, digital only for separate antennas or standard 10 db insertion, or straight analog). The bias on the PA modules is automatically adjusted for optimum operation for each mode - on-the-fly. This line of transmitters provides analog power levels from 2.5 to 21 kW, Common Amplification from 1.5 kW to 16 kW, and digital only from 775 W to 7 kW. For HD Radio, the new Harris world-standard digital FM/HD exciter, FlexStar HDx™ is used. The award winning FlexStar HDx is the source of both the IBOC HD Radio as well as the analog, creating the appropriate signal ready for amplification by the transmitter. FlexStar HDx incorporates exclusive Harris technology such as RTAC™ (Real Time Adaptive Correction) that improves performance, increases both efficiency and flexibility, ease of operation and goes above and beyond the iBiquity reference design. It was also the first "Exgine" exciter to market, eliminating the PC in the HD Radio exciter.
Z-HD+ transmitters are a linearized version of the Harris Z-CD solid-state transmitters — the world’s most popular with more than 3,000 on the air world-wide. Z-HD+ transmitters offer the same extraordinary reliability, redundant architecture and low-maintenance design as the Z-CD transmitters. The Z-HD+ modular architecture and interchangeable printed wiring boards makes servicing as easy as changing out a board - including hot swappable IPA and PA modules.
In order to facilitate simple installations, Burk remote control system ARC Plus now provides PlusConnect™ as an external, add-on solution, permitting connection of all Harris Z transmitters via serial port with greater functionality, and eliminating the need to wire individual functions. Harris does not endorse or support this product but provides the information for the ease-of-use of our customers.
