Harris Use of BXF in Automation

Harris has long been a proponent of the industry effort to automate cross-application interfaces in the broadcast environment. Chris Lennon, Harris director of integration and standards, leads the SMPTE S22-10 working group currently developing the SMPTE 2021 Broadcast Exchange Format (BXF) standard, which allows information to be transferred between distinct media applications, including traffic, sales, scheduling, asset management and automation systems.

Many Harris H-Class™ applications are built around BXF. ADC™ and D-Series™, for instance, are both capable of integrating with other H-Class™ — as well as third-party, BXF-compliant systems. ADC™ and D-Series™ interoperate with traffic and scheduling, allowing the transfer of as-run reports from automation back to traffic and scheduling. These as-run reports are used to support billing, make-goods and other media business requirements.
