What's New for D-Series™

Harris is continually working to deliver new and improved capabilities for your D-Series™ automation system. Among the newest options you'll find for D-Series™ Version 4 are:

Distributed Virtual Audio Routing over IP: A major implementation of D-Series™ A7400 radio automation for UK-based VT Communications, part of the VT Group, breaks new ground in IP control and routing of radio broadcasts worldwide. Harris Intraplex® NetXpress™ codecs are used to distribute many channels of radio programming to multiple destinations all around the world over a Multiprotocol Label Switching network. An automation schedule for each decoder on the network sends SNMP commands to tell each destination which radio broadcast channel to decode at any point in time. The implementation involves mapping destination names to IP addresses and handling n+1 standby decoder routing. In addition to central playout from the UK, the system can route programs from any location on the network to any other. This virtual distributed routing architecture control holds exciting possibilities, unlocking the power of D-Series™ automation for future broadcasting models.

D-Series™ Remote Schedule Synchronization: DRSS synchronizes schedules between the primary and backup automation systems operating at geographically separate locations through the use of a schedule synchronization server. This D-Series™ option provides scheduling and content continuity should there be a failure at the primary playout site by automatically ensuring coherence of schedules and content between primary and secondary (or backup) sites. View the DRSS data sheet for more information.

DALpanel: DALpanel is a software alternative to the familiar D-Series™ hardware panels, providing all the functionality of automation bus control (Hold, Take, etc.), bus selection and direct access panels. The touchscreen replaces multiple hardware devices with a single station and monitor, reducing the number of devices in the network and the number of connections that have to be managed. Operators realize improved efficiency as the DALpanel playout panel buttons are easily programmed and readily accessible. The software runs on a standard Windows XP computer, which ideally should have a minimum 12-inch touchscreen display supporting 1024x768 resolution.
